October 20, 2015, Mandalay – Telenor Myanmar Limited (“Telenor”) today set another milestone asit marked 3,300 sites nationwide on its 100% 3G-enablednetwork.
Chief Executive Officer of Telenor Myanmar, Mr Petter Furberg said, “We now have the biggest network in Myanmar, having built more than 3,300 towers in a little over one year. Our network in Mandalay, specifically, has grown to more than 600 towers today, from just 70 when we launched in September last year. Our aim is to provide the most consistent internet and voice experience for all customers throughout Myanmar, and in densely populated areas this simply means more sites. We continue to work closely with our tower companies and local authorities in meeting this growing demand, which we supplement through a mix of our own built sites to increase density in urban areas, and leveraging innovative network solutions from our equipment suppliers.”
Telenor’s network now reaches 13 major divisions and States, namely Mandalay, Yangon, Sagaing, Bago, Magway, Ayeyarwaddy, Tanintharyi, Kayin, Mon, Kachin, Shan, Kayah, and in union territory Nay Pyi Taw. The network in Rakhine State is in its early stages of deployment. “We are working hard to accelerate the expansion of our network in Rakhine, which have unfortunately been affected by the recent floods and delays in our fibre connectivity. We now have 18 sites in Rakhine on satellite, including eight in Sittwe; while this means that customers may initially experience slower speeds, this will improve significantly once we make progress in our fibre build,” Mr Furberg added.
The event was joined by Myanmar Blogger Society (MBS), attracting the participation of close 100 attendees. In the panel discussion, representatives from MBS and Telenor Myanmar discussed together with participants about the importance of blogs and bloggers to build stronger online communities in Myanmar.
As a continuation of the company’s one year anniversary in Myanmar, Telenor’s traditional Blue Wave activity kickedoff in Mandalay today, with more than 50 employees engaging in customer engagement and point-of-sale support activities.
“We have ‘caravans’ traveling to different parts of the country to connect with customers and support our sales channels. Five groups are travelling around a number of cities including Taunggyi, Meikhtila, Taungo, Bago, Mawlamyine, and Loikaw, among others. We will meet with customers to get feedback and identify specific areas to address in our network,” said Khin Wut Hmone Myint, Head of Market Engagement at Telenor Myanmar.
