Telenor Accelerate programme for Myanmar Startups

1st August, 2016, Yangon – Telenor Accelerate Programme’s four-month bootcamp, begun on 4th May in Bangkok, will conclude in late August with an event that will offer opportunities for participating teams including two startup teams from Myanmar – ‘MyanZen’ and ‘Go P’ to pitch their ideas to global and regional venture capitalists.

‘MyanZen’ and ‘Go P’ are the first winning teams of Telenor Myanmar’s first Accelerate Programme launched in April. ‘MyanZen’ is envisaged as a platform which will enable users to sell anything, anywhere and anytime, while ‘Go P’ is a one-stop platform for facilitating travelers and travel agencies. In preparation for the pitch day ‘Go P’ now has made a beta version of its application available on Google Playstore (https://goo.gl/3MmNjT). ‘Go P’ is a travel mobile application for Myanmar people who want to enjoy local and outbound tours. “The application will help people to easily and quickly choose and buy tour packages provided by many tour agencies. Our application will be available later for iOS devices,” said Nyunt Win Aung from ‘Go P’. Nyunt Win Aung said the four-month bootcamp helped them to improve their application.

For ‘MyanZen’, a workflow provider for social sellers to sell on social network effectively, the team is planning to launch their application by the time the bootcamp is over. Paing Hein Htet from ‘MyanZen’ said they were able to extensively revise and incorporate ideas learned at the bootcamp into their business execution.

What is a Startup Accelerator?

Startup accelerators, also known as seed accelerators, are support programs for early stage startups - with a series of educational workshops and networking events that usually last three to four months. During the accelerator program, the participating startups usually move into a shared office space together and learn about business operations, execution, finance and so on under experienced mentors and other successful entrepreneurs. At the end of the program, the graduating startups typically participate in a ‘demo day’ where they pitch about their businesses in front of investors and potentially receive seed funding to grow their business.
